It's 9.45 a.m. and the children are streaming into the assembly hall. The first two lessons are already over and the first graders are eagerly looking for their seats. Some look a little anxiously at the stage. Police chief inspector Daniela Rumpf breaks the ice, talks to the little i-men and listens out for dangers on the way to school. Then Fiffi, Susi and Wusel come into play:
"The open space is very nice, the driver can see me.
I stop at the kerb to look left and right.
And when the road is clear, I cross. One, two, three!
With the puppet stage, the police are making an important contribution to road safety
This is a fun way to prepare children for active participation in road traffic. Fiffi, Susi and Wusel help the children to understand how to cross the road safely, for example. With the help of the story, the pupils learn their first traffic rules and are made aware of the dangers. "In the district of Soest, a total of 183 children and young people were involved in accidents in 2023 - that's one accident every other day! The puppet show helps to reduce the number of such traffic accidents," explains Volker Krampe from Soest police.
Child road safety - prevention work by the police
In kindergarten, the focus is on informing and sensitizing parents.
In school, the puppet show visits first and second graders. Later, in the fourth grade, practical cycling training takes place.
