Red Knight
A road safety education and accident prevention project
KPB Soest, Wolfgang Lückenkemper

Goals and opportunities

The aim of the project is to provide a selection of different traffic education materials in order to support the subject area of road safety education and accident prevention in kindergartens.

The Red Knight Mobile supports traffic education work in the learning and application areas of recognizing and avoiding dangers, simulating road traffic in a safe space, promoting physical coordination and motor skills, as well as sensitizing and involving parents.

The area of recognizing and avoiding dangers is promoted through light-dark experiments with the black box, a mini seatbelt sled and a mini helmet test, among other things.

Road traffic is simulated in the quiet room using a road traffic course with vehicles such as city scooters, balance bikes and scooters. Traffic signs and a remote-controlled traffic light are also available for this purpose.

To promote physical coordination and motor skills, a variety of materials are available, such as pedalos, balance boards, stilts, skipping ropes and much more.

Looking forward to working on the project

The sensitization and involvement of parents is supported by extensive film material and brochures on the topics of child restraint systems, children's perception in road traffic, road safety education, as well as a school route guide.

The Red Knight Mobile will initially be used in pre-school facilities such as kindergartens and daycare centers. The use of the possibilities is to be developed and communicated in cooperation with the educators. The road safety advisors from our authority have already gained an in-depth overview of the possibilities offered by the Red Knight Mobile. They were also able to try out various offers.

Where did the trailer and the idea come from?

The Roter Ritter mobile was received by the road safety consultancy in September 2020. The official handover of the vehicle by the Chairman of the TEILEn e.V. Foundation, Mr. Franz-Werner Drees, took place on 5 November 2020.

The Roter-Ritter-Mobil is the result of a joint development project involving the vocational schools for health and social services in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim, the road safety advisory service of the Nordhorn police station, Aktion Kinder-Unfallhilfe e.V. and Stiftung Teilen e.V.

Throughout Germany, the foundation has so far handed over seven Red Knight mobiles to police authorities in Hamburg, Nordhorn and now Soest, among others.
